VGK LadyFan of the Week: Marie Forbus

Meet VGK Ladyfan Marie Forbus! We asked Marie a few questions about herself. Here’s what she had to say:

Tell us about yourself (family, job, etc)…

My name is Marie Forbus. I moved to Henderson when I was 3 years old, so I consider my self native to the area.   I’m married to my best friend, Rich, for 18 years.   We have two kids,  RJ (17) and Kalia (15).   I’ve been a stay at home mom for 17 years, but with my son going to college and my daughter driving by this summer, I would like to start working part time.

How did you become a fan of the Vegas Golden Knights?

I had never watched hockey in my life.   When we found out that Vegas was getting a team, we thought it was cool and talked about getting season tickets, but never did since our son plays baseball and thought we wouldn’t have the time.

When Oct. 10th came around, I remember being at home and just watching the opening ceremony.  I had no idea who Deryk Engelland was at the time, but his speech brought me to tears. I still didn’t watch the game that KNIGHT though. It wasn’t until my husband and two kids had tickets to the Oct. 27th game.  They all went and I stayed home and decided to watch the game on TV.  Lets just say I was glued to my couch and watched every minute of that game.  Ever since that day, I’ve been hooked on the game and, of course, our Vegas Golden Knights.  Oct. 27th will always be VGK day for me, because that’s when I became a fan for life.

Who is your favorite player, and why?

It’s so hard to have just one favorite player on this team.   If I had to pick one, it would be Brayden McNabb.   It all started when my daughter went to her first game. She texted me a picture of Brayden from the Jumbotron, knowing I would think he was a cute, and she was right!  I started watching him and I just loved the way played on the ice.   The hits he would make just seemed effortless. And the way he used his body to block the puck, I thought was so cool.  Again, I was a newbie to the game, so seeing him play just amazed me.

Do you have any game day traditions?

I always make sure I use my VGK hydroflask during the day. And if we’re watching the game at T-Mobile, we park at NY NY on the 8th floor by the staircase.

Do you have any hockey superstitions?

I really didn’t have any until we made it to the playoffs.   I went to 8 games during the playoffs and never washed my jersey or socks.   My VGK shoes and socks were placed in the same area in our house and the kids were not even allowed to move them when vacuuming.

What VGK item you own is your favorite?

I love my purple VGK “Hockey fights for cancer” jersey.   I have a few friends that either fought, are still fighting, or have lost the fight with cancer.   I’m still thinking about putting “82” and “Dad” on the back of mine.

If you can’t attend a game, where is your favorite place to watch, and why?

I love watching the games at home with my husband and kids.   I can be comfy on my couch and get some cleaning/dinner done between periods.  LOL

Name 3 things outside of hockey that you’re interested in.

I love watching my son play baseball and my daughter paint/draw if she’s out on First Friday’s.  I love to bake, but don’t do it often because our whole family is trying to cut down on the sweets.   Lastly, I love to get my hands dirty in my garden.  I love trying to grow our own vegetables.  Unfortunately, this season I was preoccupied with our VGK, so my garden was put on hold.

Some treats I’ve made during the season:

VGK hockey pucks:  Made from melting chocolate, Oreo cookies and gold dust.  I used an Oreo chocolate mold, which gives you a smoother texture, and a VGK stencil to add the design.  The molds, stencil, and edible gold dust, I bought at Tempting Treasures in Henderson.

Shark sushi when we played against the sharks:  Made from gummy sharks, cereal treats, green icing (for wasabi), and fruit roll ups.
