Meet VGK Fan Amy Novak

Meet Amy Novak! She’s been behind the scenes helping plan our VGK Ladies events, and is now an official part of the VGK Ladies team. We adore her, and know you will too!

We asked Amy some questions about herself.  Here’s what she had to say…

Tell us about yourself (family, job, etc)…

I’m forty-something, married for 19 years (almost). 3 daughters, ages 17, 15, and 10. Moved to Vegas in 1999 from Central Illinois, after we graduated from college.

Educator for just over 19 years, currently teaching 1st grade at a private school in Vegas. My hubs is an officer with LVMPD.

I also volunteer for 2 organizations near and dear to my heart: as a Facilitator for Girls Who Code, and Officer Down. I’ve got a couple of extra kids I look out for too. I try to serve as a mentor to them as they navigate through their lives. We hit up area coffee spots and talk about their futures when we can. They are both Seniors this year, so life has become super busy.

When all that is said and done, and a little bit in between, I LOVE helping “VGKatie” deliver some awesome experiences to lady fans of the Vegas Golden Knights. Giving back to my community has always been a priority and the most important value to me outside my family. I attempt to do all that embodies that, and breeds a happy soul.

Fan Spotlight

How did you become a fan of the Vegas Golden Knights?

I was introduced to the sport when I met my husband in college. In fact, I was stood up the first week we met because the Chicago Blackhawks were in the playoffs ’97. That’s ok, because it actually turned out for him;  we have been married since 1999. I thought he was playing hard to get, but in fact, he just really loved his hockey! Since that moment, hockey is something we still share together when we can. Many a story throughout our time involves the sport. We have raised our girls to be super fans since they were babies. When Vegas got a team we were over-the-moon because it was the only sport ALL of us truly loved. Then they came and it’s been 100 mph since. They are such stand-up guys, they were hard not to love so much! We have yet to go to a game, all 5 of us, at the same time.

Who is your favorite player, and why?

Number 5!!!!! MR. Engelland. He epitomizes leadership in a team. I use him and his other teammates as stories when I teach my students. And who doesn’t love a guy over 6 feet tall that will take someone out to protect you! And that beard…..forgettaboutit!

Do you have any game time traditions?

Playoffs, yes. It’s actually borderline ridiculous, but I go ALL IN. Regular season, not so much. Obviously wearing a piece of my VGK gear and this season, my new purchase of gold glittery boots.

Do you have any hockey superstitions?

DO NOT TOUCH THE CUP!! This gives me an anxiety attack when I see players doing it. Also, whatever you are wearing/doing during their first winning game that takes them to the playoffs, you wear/eat/drink for every playoff game after. There was one unfortunate year with the Blackhawks when we drank Coors Light each game, and goals were shots of Jameson. That was a tough one, ecchhh.

If you can’t attend a game, where is your favorite place to watch, and why?

At home with my family. It’s a unifying game for us. It’s awesome to watch when my hubby and my sister are both here. They are louder than the arena fans when the VGK  play.

Name 3 things outside of hockey that you’re interested in.

1. Anything creative…cooking, technology, crafting

2. Napping

3. Music and Concerts

Do you have any special talents?

1. I never forget a face…I may not remember your name but I will always remember your face and the time period I knew you.

2. I memorize license plates of people I meet. Comes from growing up in a small town.

3. People….I can feel what people, especially children, are feeling/thinking before they even say it. It’s both a curse/blessing.

4. Being busy….I don’t like to be still.
