All too often, Vegas Golden Knights fans hear from others how astounding it is that Vegas has such a staggering fan base. Were we fans of hockey before? Are we just bandwagon fans because Vegas finally has a team and they were decent? What is their secret?
The secret is that our players genuinely care about our community. These players all have different hometowns, different teams they had allegiance to (up until joining the Golden Knights). None of that mattered once they moved to Vegas, and that’s what charms their fans. Vegas was their new town, and they have gone and continue to go out of their way to help within the community.
They specifically go out of their way to bring joy into the lives of children, especially when these kids are facing hard times. It means a lot to these kids to have the opportunity to meet some of the players they idolize, and their moments of joy mean a lot to their parents.
In fact, Alex Tuch recently visited the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic in Las Vegas today to meet with some of the children there. He was donning a VGK jersey, but with a different number. Instead of #89, he sported a #65 jersey signed by all the children, a nod to the 65 Roses story and Cystic Fibrosis Month.
Tuch isn’t the only Golden Knight getting involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Everyone’s favorite gila monster, Chance, appeared at the Southern Nevada 2019 Great Strides walk on April 27th. Ryan Reaves even signed a puck to be auctioned off during an upcoming fundraiser for the foundation.

Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infection and limits a person’s ability to breathe. While there is no cure for the disease, scientific advances have extended both the quality and quantity of life for those with CF. There is still hope, though. Every donation made to Great Strides helps with research and programs that help those with CF, like Vegas Golden Knights fan Camille “Cami” Zemp. This four-going-on-five-year-old little girl has been through so much, but seeing a Knight in a shining jersey like Tuch made her day!
